Step 5: Researching About the Company.
If you indeed want to get employed despite all odds that may militate against you, then you have to take some issues very serious and ensure you are better positioned above competition. The next step in the series, 12 steps to get a job in Ghana and any part of the world is ‘Researching about the Company’. There have been several instances where job applicants may not bother themselves to research about company and know a little about it. Many job seekers do not see the essence in doing this since they believe they know this after giving employment.
In this article, I will share with you my experience for the past years as a Human Resource Manager and an Administrator.
Things to know about the company
1. Name of the Company
The first thing you to know about your prospective company is the name of the name of the company. How embarrassing it will be for you to be found wanting and bubbling to slip out the name of the company when asked. It will be easier for you to ask the company of the name if you are not told when called for interview. Merely knowing the name of the company alone can assist you to get a lot of information about it especially if it is that popular.
2. Products and Services
Every company exists to produce products or provide services to their customers. Knowing the actual products and or services rendered will assist you greatly in deciding whether to attend the interview or not. This is very important more especially where the provide and services rendered are in sharp contrast to your faith, values or your religious beliefs and practices.
3. Motto or Slogan
It will not take you more than two minutes to learn the slogan or motto of your prospective new company. These are some of the ways the company is easily identified and stands unique among all others. Learning the slogan means you are speaking the language of the company and easily buy into your ideas and corporate image.
4. Corporate Values
Do not stress yourself too much to learn all these things such as the corporate values of the company if they are not readily available on the internet or the company’s website. However, I will highly recommend that you read about so that you can speak and answer questions with the values of the company in advance. While other interviewees are speaking in general terms, your impressions will hammer and drive home the message of belonging to the company already.
5. Goals, Vision and Objectives
Sometimes, most of the questions may be asked in a bid to recruit the best employee with deeper knowledge revolving around the goals, visions and objectives of the company. Knowing these things will only assist you to stand a higher chance of getting employed.
During interview, any crazy question at all could be asked and you have no idea which answer you may give and lead to other questions that may open a door for you. It is very easy to identify the colours of organizations. Most of them could be easily seen through the colour of the paints of the building, the uniforms of the staff, souvenirs and stationery, website colour, etc.
7. Year of Establishment and Number of Operative Years.
It is very important for you know whether you are attending an interview with a new company or an old well established company. Your findings will carve your expectations and the kind of demands to make during the interview. For instance, old and well established companies with high reputation may certainly have better conditions of service than new industries which may be struggling to even break-even.
8. Your Personal Likes, Dislikes and Opinions About the Company
Sometimes, these kind of questions may be very tricky and one has to be very careful in answering it. At times, people are able to identify and pinpoint problems of the company and are able to convince interviewers about the radical and rapid improvement they could bring but may not be able to deliver as promised.
Be diligent in your response when asked questions of such nature in order not to commit yourself in diverse ways.
